Home General information

From this TOP you can set out for a lovely adventure by foot, bicycle or inline skates. First stop off at De Zandzee for a visit to the VVV tourist office, to rent your (e)bikes and perhaps to have a drink before you start your journey!

Out in nature...
Just a short walk away (50 meter) you find the Fransche Kampheide Heath that is part of the Gooi Nature Reserve, a heathland with a recreation area. The region is easily accessible by foot, by wheelchair and by scoot mobile. The semi-hardened paths are suitable for wheelchairs, but not for walkers. There are plenty of benches with great views and picnic opportunities nearby. There are no signposts to indicate routes. Dogs are allowed to run freely in this area.

Directions from the nearest highway

From A1, exit 8 Blaricum/Huizen – after the exit, turn left and then left again at the stoplight to pass under the highway. Take the first right and drive to the stoplight. Here you turn left towards Bussum-Zuid/’s-Graveland. Keep driving straight until the end of the Ceintuurbaan (Note: turn right at the first roundabout for the Fort Work IV). At the last roundabout turn left, passing the Bussum Zuid train station and turn right at the Water tower, onto the Struikheiweg. About 800 meters further up on the left-hand-side you find first a small parking area and further on a large parking lot. Free parking.

NS train station Bussum Zuid is located at approx. 700 meters from De Zandzee. Once you arrive at the NS train station Bussum Zuid; turn onto the road, Struikheiweg; turn left at the roundabout and you enter the grounds of De Zandzee.

Sights to see in the direct surroundings

Town center of Bussum

Bussum’s town center has a rich and varied range of shops, close together and lined up along inviting shopping streets. Here you find more than just the chain stores: a true Gooi collection! To rest your feet in between shops, there are plenty of spacious restaurants and welcoming cafes to choose from.
The Bussum shopping center can be easily reached both by foot and by bike. The distance to the edge of the town center is about 1 km. You can follow the signs in the direction of bicycle junction 35 and for the trip back, just follow junction 36.

Fransche Kampheide Heathland

From this TOP you can visit the Fransche Kampheide Heathland of the Gooi Nature Reserve (40 ha). Walk back to the entrance and turn right onto the walking path. After about 50 meters, turn onto the little parking lot on the right-hand-side and walk straight on to the heathland. Before long you will see a picnic spot and an information post about the Gooi Nature Reserve. From the parking lot, you can see the information sign for the Fransche Kampheide Heathland a little further down on the heathland.

Sport Center De Zandzee/VVV

In Sport Center De Zandzee there is a VVV tourist office next to a restaurant and toilets (free of charge and wheelchair accessible). Here there is also a swimming pool. It includes various pools, a slide, a whirlpool and a wild water pool. Outside there is a sunny terrace with outdoor pool for the smallest of De Zandzee’s visitors.

Farther away from the TOP, but certainly worth the trip: Theater Spant! and Fort Work IV

Swimming pool / Restaurant De Zandzee, Mon - Fri 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sat-Sun 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Both modern sport and wellness center. 035-6933554.

The center of Bussum offers plenty of other options and is relatively close by (see also: sights to see). To get there, follow the signposts for bicycle junction 35 and on the way back, follow junction 36.

Bastion Hotel. Less than a kilometer away from TOP Bussum – De Zandzee you will find Bastion Hotel Bussum-Zuid/Hilversum (address: Struikheiweg 3). There is a walking path away from the main road that takes you from the hotel to the Fransche Kampheide heathland and De Zandzee Sport Center. It’s an ideal spot to spend the night and to venture out and explore the nature and culture of the region.

Home Walking routes

You can walk to your heart’s content on the Fransche Kampheide heathland. Here there are no signposts along the way to mark the walking routes. The bicycle and walking paths are semi-hard surfaces and they lead into dirt trails. The semi-hardened paths are suitable for wheelchairs, but not for walkers. There are numerous benches at beautiful vantage points and multiple picnic areas in the heathland. Dogs are allowed to run free in this area. This region is also very suitable for runners.

Home Biking routes from this TOP

Introduction
From here there are several routes along the junction network: Around the Gooi (33 km), Wealth of the Gooi Route (33 km), Around the Vecht Region (26 km) and The Loosdrechtse Lakes Route (42 km). You can also plan your own bike tour through the Fransche Kampheide heathland if you like. In that case, simply return to the entrance and turn right onto the bicycle path. After 50 meters, turn right at the junction KP 36, just past a small parking lot. From here you bike onto the heathland.

This TOP is located between 2 bicycle junctions: Junction 35 and 36. To reach this point, go back to the entrance of the parking lot.

To reach Junction 35 (near NS train station Naarden-Bussum): take the 2nd exit to turn left (diagonally) on the roundabout, here you see a sign post indicating the way to Junction 35.

To reach Junction 36 (on the Franse Kampweg, side street to Naarderweg): take the 1st exit to turn right on the roundabout. After about 50 meters, you will see a signpost indicating the way to Junction 36, just past a small parking lot on the heathland. You turn right here to enter the Fransche Kampheide.

Short description: Around the Gooi, 33 km. A fun route through the Gooi. Among the sights on this route, you will see plenty of magnificent nature and pass the Gooimeer Lake.

Towns you will visit: Laren, Blaricum, Huizen, Naarden and Bussum.

Unique sights and attractions on the way: Naarden Fortress, Oud Valkeveen Amusement Park, Geological Museum Hofland.

Starting point: Junction (KP) 36

Restaurants along the way: There are plenty of opportunities on the way to stop for a snack, including La Place in Laren.

Signs to follow via the bicycle junction network: from TOP Bussum to 36, 50, 51, 53, 52, 81, 76, 77, 78, 33, 34, 35, TOP Bussum (bike in the direction of junction 36).

Home Wealth of the Gooi Route

Short description: The Wealth of the Gooi Route, 33 km. The VVV tourist office and Hilversum Museum are located right in the center of Hilversum at the Brink. Hilversum, the media city of the Netherlands, and a great shopping area, is not to be missed! This bicycle junction route takes you through a lovely part of ‘t Gooi. You will be blow away by the abundance you find here. You pass through forests and heathlands and bike over the largest ecoduct of Europe! Not to mention the lush gardens, estates, villas and architecture that can be seen here. At junction 54, you ride past the impressive Town Hall designed by Dudok. The town hall can be visited on request. Along the way, there are plenty of stop-off opportunities where you can sit for a drink or simply pause to soak up the wealth of the Gooi!

Towns you will visit: Hilversum, ’s Graveland and Blaricum.

Unique sights and attractions along the way: Hilversum Museum, Trompenburg Museum, Visitor Center Natural Monuments, Slinger Memorial, Zeven Schepel Garden and the Dr.Costerustuin Garden.

Starting point: Junction (KP) 36.

Restaurants along the way: Restaurant Robert in Hilversum and various locations in Laren.

Signs to follow via the bicycle junction network: 36, 50, 51, 80, 81, 52 (go straight at the top of het highway), 53 (pass under the train tracks, then turn right and then left onto the Stationstraat), 54, 55, 11, 12, 9, 8, 10, 36 – TOP Bussum (bike in the direction of junction 35).

Short description: Around the Vecht region, 26 km. The route Around the Vecht Region leads you through what is also called ‘The Garden of Amsterdam’. At a relatively short distance from the capital, you find here beautiful forests and natural lakes.

Home Loosdrechtse Lakes 42 km

Short description: Loosdrechtse Lakes route, 42 km. This biking route around the Loosdrechtse Lakes gives you a fabulous view over everything that goes on in the area. This area in particular is well suited for watersports: sailing, rowing, canoeing, waterskiing and high-speed motorboats - it’s all possible.

Home Land of Fortresses route

Short description: Land of Fortresses route, 34 km. This route takes you past 7 forts that are all a part of the New Holland Waterline and the Defense Line of Amsterdam.

Towns you will visit: Muiden, Muiderberg, Naarden, Bussum, Uitermeer, De Horn and Weesp.

Unique sights and attractions on the route: the first five forts are open to the public.

TIP: Be sure not to miss any forts! We recommend you to follow the route description to the end.

Home Skating route IJlake

Short description: The skating route around the Naardermeer Lake, past the IJmeer, 23,5 or 30,5 km. This route takes you partially along the main road, over a new, well-asphalted bike path, and partially over cute, little pathways that cut through the beautiful nature. The route is just over 30 km long, but you can shorten the route by leaving out the part along the IJmeer. The route is not marked with sign-posts and can only be followed digitally (via the button) and described in detail in the map in the guidebook, ‘RijkeRoute!Gids’. Available at all VVV tourist offices in the region and via the web shop: www.webshop.gooivecht.nl

Starting point: It is not possible to skate directly from TOP Bussum. From the parking lot at De Zandzee, head off to the right. After approx. 700 meters, you arrive at the Bussum Zuid train station. You can start off from the parking lot here.
