Sights to see in the area

The Kortrijk Mill
On the P&R stands a polder mill from 1966. The mill was named after the Flemish city of Kortrijk. So the name was derived from Flanders, from where the settlers came and who were recruited in the 12th century to exploit the bog lands to the west of Breukelen.

Nyenrode Castle/University

Located just outside of the village, on the Straatweg 25, 3621 BG in Breukelen. This little castle with a moat and drawbridge looks beautiful all year round! Next to the castle, there is a park complete with deer. The Castle is property of Nyenrode University, whose campus is situated on the same terrain just behind the castle. Visitors are no longer permitted to visit the castle, nor can they enter the park. Of course, you can always ask the guard at the main gate; it’s worth a try!

The village of Breukelen
The village of Breukelen is certainly worth exploring. To do so, you just have to cross the canal, continue straight on until you reach the roundabout. There you take the turn in the road to the left onto the Straatweg. This takes you right to the center on your right-hand side. Wander the narrow streets, visit the park of the Boom & Bosch estate and spend some time on one of the welcoming terraces. Don’t miss the view of the steel drawbridge over the River Vecht.

Gunterstein
Along the River Vecht, to the east of the historic center of Breukelen, you see the enchanting Gunsterstein estate. The Gunterstein of today was built in 1681 by Magdalena Poulle and is adjoined to a stronghold that dates back to the 16th century. Although the Gunterstein estate inhabited, the park area is open to the public. Visitors can enter using the second entrance on the Laan van Gunterstein. The inner courtyard is not open to the public.
