Home What is Geocaching?

Outdoor treasure hunting

Geocaching is an adventurous treasure-hunt game that can be played all over the world. With your smartphone or a GPS device in hand, you navigate to a particular place in order to find a treasure, in the form of a hidden mini-container. Geocaching is possible everywhere, all the time, and it takes you to the most unusual and surprising places. They’re in your hometown, at the end of a long hike, near a beautiful fort or on the water.

In order to find them, you grab your smartphone and download a special Geocaching app. You then work with coordinates that lead you to a place where treasure lies hidden. In each cache, there’s a logbook with which you can claim the find and leave a message for the geocachers who come along behind you. What you’re looking for can be different every time. The geocaches come in all formats, shapes and degrees of difficulty. It’s not always easy, but that makes it that much more fun when you find the treasure.

We’ve selected the best caches in Gooi & Vecht for you. You’ll end up in the most beautiful nature areas, unique villages or at historical buildings, every time you go looking for a new cache.
